How to Get the Most out of Your Rolfing® Ten Series

Rolfing is a combination of bodywork + client education that brings about lasting changes in pain, tension and posture. The effectiveness comes from a teamwork approach: what I do as the practitioner (reading the body, manual techniques, somatic techniques, etc.) and what you do as the client to integrate the work (engaging with the work in the spirit of exploration both during and outside of the sessions). This integrative element is key to co-creating lasting changes. We are not aiming for instant perfectionism but rather a genuine willingness to engage with the ways in which you inhabit, relate to and move in your body.

Another important element to understand about Rolfing is that as a Rolfer I am looking at and treating the whole body in service of your goals. Sometimes the relief will be felt instantly, other times it will be gradual. When it comes to our complex human mind-body, progress is not linear, so the effects may vary over the course of our work together. What we are really aiming for is a positive, observable change in the baseline of how you feel, move, relate and live in your body on a daily basis, while building resources that help you return to this home base anytime you feel the old patterns returning.

Here are some concrete ways in which you can support the best outcomes from your Rolfing experience:

  1. For those who have not received Rolfing, a course of 10 sessions called the “Ten Series” is recommended. This allows us to bring about change holistically in service of your goals.

  2. It is ideal to space sessions 1-2 weeks apart. I recommend booking in advance in order to secure this cadence.

  3. If spacing sessions every 1-2 weeks isn’t feasible for you, that may be just fine. Please reach out to me or we can talk about a solution during your first session.

  4. As you go through the Ten Series (and really, always!), movement and exercise is good, while movement and exercise that prioritizes form, sustainability, and awareness is great. Engaging mindfully in your movement practice between sessions may offer you a broader context in which to notice the effects of our work together.

  5. If you have already completed a Ten Series within the last 10 years, you are welcome to come in for tune-up sessions.

  6. If you completed the Ten Series with another Rolfer, please note that Rolfers work differently from each other. You are welcome to explore this website further and/or reach out to me ahead of time to clarify whether my way of working is a good fit for your expectations + goals.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this information! I truly look forward to working with you.
